Instead the ambience demands physical activity, wich in turn helps the individual to meet the demands of modern competitive society (*): Breuer's 'sportsman' would have used the house to 'steel' (**) himself by daily training bouts, and thus be capable of 'punching his way through' (***) the world outside.
